Star Light, Star Bright
The fourth release from the Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic 2011–12 Season digital recording series is now available for download from iTunes, Amazon.com, eMusic.com, and InstantEncore.com, as well as by visiting nyphil.org/recordings. Led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, the new album features the New York Premiere of Thomas Adès’s Polaris — a New York Philharmonic Co-Commission — paired with Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 (sans Marimba). Above is a sample of Polaris, which refers to the North Star, or Pole Star, around which other stars seem to circle. You can also stream this — and all recordings from this season’s series — on Spotify.
