Encore!
Last night Simon Trpčeski’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2 — which the Macedonian pianist has admitted is “so-o-o-o difficult” — was so inspiring that the appreciative crowd demanded even more. Unfazed, he offered a solo encore: in keeping with the evening’s all-Tchaikovsky theme, he played Old French Song, from Album for Children, Op. 39, No. 16. Catch the last time he is performing the work with Bramwell Tovey and the Philharmonic when this year’s Summertime Classics series concludes tonight.
