STOP… Hammer Time
“The noise of the city can be distracting, but its rhythms and energy are also invigorating. Magnus Lindberg’s seminal work Kraft taps into that power (Kraft does mean strength in German) of the industrialized metropolis.”
So notes WQXR’s Amanda Angel, adding it to her Top 5 @ 5 list of musical selections for the workplace.
For the Philharmonic’s 2010 New York debut of the work, Lindberg, in his role as Composer in Residence, here with Principal Timpani Markus Rhoten (the Orchestra’s resident German strength) scoured the city for objects to incorporate into the Kraft sound world. Here’s a clip.
