Augustin, Just in Time: Or How To Make Your Philharmonic Debut
In July 2010 violinist Augustin Hadelich was en route to Italy when he got a call asking him to fill in for the Philharmonic’s ailing scheduled soloist. Three days later, he was performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Orchestra at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival.
“In the end, I was not as nervous as I thought I’d be making my New York Philharmonic debut,” Hadelich recalls.
In fact, he was such a hit that he was immediately asked to join the Orchestra in Vail in 2011, and to make his debut at Avery Fisher Hall this season. Hadelich and the Philharmonic reunite October 18–20 and 23 for Lalo’s evocative Symphonie espagnole.
