Get Insight Tonight
A week of events celebrating Carl Nielsen, Denmark’s most renowned composer, starts tonight! It all comes together with Insight, an evening of conversation and music at the New York Institute of Technology, where Alan Gilbert joins colleagues from Scandinavia to discuss the impetus behind The Nielsen Project, the Philharmonic’s performance and recording of Nielsen’s complete symphonies and concertos.
Participants include Mats Engstrom from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, where Alan Gilbert was previously Chief Conductor, and cut his teeth on Nielsen’s music; Henrik Rordam from Dacapo Records, the label releasing the Philharmonic’s recordings; Ida-Marie Vorre from the Odense City Museums, which has put together an exhibit exploring the life and works of Carl Nielsen opening tomorrow in Avery Fisher Hall; and moderator Harvey Sachs, the Philharmonic’s Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in-Residence. To top it off, NY Philharmonic musicians will perform excerpts from Nielsen’s Wind Quintet.
Impress your peers with your Nielsen know-how, attend tonight.
