“I felt incredibly privileged to have the chance to work with the New York Philharmonic and to make decisions that not only affect the cultural landscape in New York but really help shape it in a very, very profound way.” — Alan Gilbert to WCBS 880 on the announcement that his contract as New York Philharmonic Music Director has been extended to the 2016–17 season.  Alan, with Executive Director Matthew VanBesien, shared the news with Orchestra musicians at yesterday’s rehearsal before it hit the virtual papers.
