Remembering Jake

The Philharmonic has lost a good friend, indeed. We’ve learned of the death of Jake, the Philharmonic Dog, at the age of 17. Jake spent his entire life backstage at Avery Fisher Hall, greeting musicians, celebrating his birthday onstage, checking out Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, and most of all, becoming the subject of a children’s book about the Orchestra.

On Jupiter and Mars

Avery Fisher Hall’s interior may be currently covered in snow for the sold-out A Dancer’s Dream, but next week Summertime Classics take the stage. Hosted and conducted by Bramwell Tovey, we have a Star-Spangled Celebration on tap for July 3 and 4; and July 5, 6, and 7 welcomes The Planets: an HD Odyssey. Check out the trailer above and click here for more info.

When the Sun Goes Down
Thanks to the eagle-eyed photographer who caught a vantage point of Avery Fisher Hall, our home at Lincoln Center, on a recent early-summer’s eve! Our 2012-13 season may be ending this week with three sold-out performances of A Dancer’s Dream, but we’re still open in July for Summertime Classics, featuring "The Planets: An HD Odyssey."

Winterwear
The front of Avery Fisher Hall has acquired a new look for the month of June as we count down the days to our season finale, A Dancer’s Dream. Check out what we have brewing for the double-bill of Stravinsky ballets starring New York City Ballet principal dancer Sara Mearns and helmed by Giants Are Small (the creative dynamite behind Le Grand Macabre and The Cunning Little Vixen). If nothing else, the frosty touches are helping to alleviate the humidity New York has been experiencing for the last few days…

A Quick Dinner
Avery Fisher Hall was the backdrop last evening as a dinner flash mob of more than 3,000 descended on Lincoln Center’s Josie Robertson Plaza for the second Diner en Blanc to take place in New York City. The location of the event, which takes place in cities around the world, is kept secret from participants until the last minute. Luckily, everyone brought their own chairs, tables … and, of course, food.

2 Days 2 Get Stoked
This guy certainly is excited that the Philharmonic box office opens soon. Put on your dancing shoes this Sunday, August 19; starting at noon, the box office is officially open, online and at Avery Fisher Hall, for 2012–13 season single-ticket sales.
