Attention, Aspiring Bassists!

Hot off the press: Philharmonic Acting Associate Principal Bass Orin O’Brien recently published Double Bass Notebook, a guide full of wisdom culled from her teaching career at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes College of Music.

Double Bass Notebook includes O’Brien’s time-tested exercises, études, articles, photographs of correct positioning, audition advice, and a chapter titled “Basic Principles of Orchestral Playing.”

Double bassist Roman Patkoló, whom Anne-Sophie Mutter, The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence, calls “the Paganini of the bass,” performs with Ms. Mutter on an intimate chamber music program featuring Musicians of the New York Philharmonic on Sunday, April 3, at Avery Fisher Hall.
