Overheard in the Avery Fisher Elevator
ELEVATOR: Ding!
PAOLO BORDIGNON, Philharmonic Harpsichordist: Hmm, is that a B flat? (Hurriedly digs around for his iPhone and pulls up “Virtuoso,” a virtual piano app, just in time for the next ding.) Nope, it’s an A. Ok, now I’m all set for the day!

Talk about Multitasking
When attending this week’s concerts, don’t expect to see Jeffrey Kahane on the podium all night. The energetic conductor takes on the extraordinary task of leading the Orchestra from the podium in Mozart’s Symphony No. 33, and performing as a soloist/conductor, leading from both the harpsichord — in J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe — and the piano — in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Whew.

“A musician’s conductor”
The latest installment of On the Music brings you Jeffrey Kahane, who will play many roles on the Avery Fisher Hall stage on November 22, 25–26 and 29. The program opens with J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Oboe, Violin, and Strings, BWV 1060 — with Principal Oboe Liang Wang and Principal Associate Concertmaster Sheryl Staples and Mr. Kahane at the harpsichord as soloists — followed by Mozart’s Symphony No. 33 and concludes with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, with — you guessed it — Jeffrey Kahane, as soloist.
