Everyone to the Parks!

Some of the best images of our annual Concerts in the Parks series come from the regulars, who certainly know how to put out a spread and gather the friends ‘round.

We head out for free concerts in all five boroughs of NYC this week, starting tonight in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Tag your images with “New York Philharmonic” and we’ll do a search and add them to our Pinterest board.

Dream a Little Dream
Delve into our season finale, A Dancer’s Dream, with a look at our newest Pinterest board: Inside “A Dancer’s Dream.” Director and designer Doug Fitch (who helped create our productions of Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre and Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen) has given us an exclusive peek at the inspiration boards that went into costuming Columbine, the Moor, Petrushka, and the Ice Maiden for Petrushka and The Fairy’s Kiss, two ballets by Stravinsky that make up our season finale in June that stars NYC Ballet principal dancer Sara Mearns. See how designers like Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Comme des Garçons, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Viktor & Rolf combine with artful origami and the looks of everyone from Mad Max to classical ballet to create this one of a kind Dream.

Some wintry listening for what promises to be a snowy Saturday: hear Jean-Yves Thibaudet sail through Grieg’s Piano Concerto. Thibaudet plays the same work with the Phil January 3–5, 2013. In the meantime, check out Jean-Yves Style, our Pinspiration board dedicated to the French pianist and fashion plate.

Tradition with a Twist

Alan Gilbert describes the quirky Nordic sensibility that Carl Nielsen brought to his music. Check out more about The Nielsen Project on the Philharmonic’s special Web pages, or lean more at a glance on our new Pinterest board. Then join us as the Music Director leads the Orchestra in two Nielsen concertos, October 10–13.

Summer Snapshots

Concerts in the ParksThe New York Philharmonic’s 2012 Concerts in the Parks are but a pleasant memory now. Luckily, snapshots from some of the nearly 120,000 music lovers, picnickers, and even Conga line dancers, who turned out for the Orchestra’s performances throughout the five boroughs have been collected on the Philharmonic’s Pinterest page. Revisit the memories (like this great shot of the finale fireworks over Belvedere Castle in Central Park), and be sure to check out our continuing collection of Pinterest boards in the upcoming season.
